10 False Rape Accusations

1 -- Thomas Kennedy -- In 2001, an 11-year-old Kalama girl named Cassandra Ann Kennedy told police her dad raped her on at least three occasions. Her father, Thomas Edward Kennedy, denied the allegation, but he was convicted by a jury and sentenced to more than 15 years in prison.

2 -- Darryl Hunt (born 1965) is an African American man from Winston-Salem, North Carolina who, in 1984, was wrongfully convicted of the rape and murder of a young white newspaper copy editor, Deborah Sykes, but was later exonerated by DNA and other forms of evidence. --- He served 19-and-one-half years in prison before he was freed after review and exoneration. --- Darryl Hunt is now a Muslim and involved in the Innocence Project, as well as his own group called The Darryl Hunt Project for Freedom and Justice. This project is devoted to "educating the public about flaws in the criminal justice system, advocating for those wrongfully incarcerated as a result of those flaws, and providing resources and support for those trying to rebuild their lives."

3 -- Brian Banks -- Brian Keith Banks (born July 24, 1985) is a former American football linebacker. Banks signed

with the Atlanta Falcons on April 3, 2013 and was released in the final round of roster cuts on August 30, 2013. ---Banks was a standout high school football star at Polytechnic High School (Poly) in Long Beach, California, and in 2002 had verbally committed to play for USC. After being falsely accused of rape by a classmate, he spent more than five years in prison, but had his conviction overturned in 2012 after his accuser was secretly recorded admitting she had fabricated the story.
